Dubai: In a significant milestone in the transportation history of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai Ruler and UAE Vice President Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum rode the iconic Etihad Rail passenger train from Dubai to Fujairah. Sharing photos of the ride, Sheikh Mohammad lauded Etihad Rail, which is an iconic project of the UAE.
The national project, which will connect 11 cities across the country – from Fujairah in the east to Al Sila in the west – will use trains that can accelerate up to 200 kilometres per hour. The passenger trains, expected to be launched next year, aim to transport 36 million passengers annually by 2030.
Sheikh Mohammad, who enjoyed the passenger train, later said that he was proud of the national projects. He wrote on his official social media handle, “proud of the Etihad Trains team led by Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed…and proud of a country that never stops working, but adds a brick every day to its future infrastructure.”
