'The Louvre' in Paris, the world's largest art museum that is more than 200 years old, witnessed a cinema-style break-in on Sunday, which is now making waves across the globe. About half an hour after it opened, four balaclava-clad robbers entered the museum in a truck, with an extendable ladder and a basket lift. Using the power tools with them, they broke into the Apollon gallery in the museum that houses priceless, historic jewels of Napoleon in broad daylight in about ten minutes! Certain reports also say that the heist took less than five minutes. Just as the museum alarms rang to alert the guards, the thieves quickly escaped on bikes. According to the French culture ministry, the group stole a tiara, a sapphire necklace, earrings, jewellery sets of queens and pieces of jewellery from another set. They dropped the valuable crown of Napoleon III's wife, Eugenie, as they rushed out.

What's the Louvre famous for?
1) It's home to Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa painting. It's one of the artworks with the most significant number of security deployed for its protection. It has a climate-controlled case and bulletproof glass protecting it.
2) It houses 'The Code of Hammurabi,' a stone stele from Babylon, which is believed to have one of the earliest written laws.
3)The ancient Greek statue of Aphrodite, named 'Venus de Milo,' with its missing arms.

5) Theodore Gericault's painting 'The Raft of Medussa,' which showcases a haunting image of shipwreck survivors.
6) Louvre's largest painting is 'The Wedding at Cana', showing the first miracle of Christ.

Louvre theft captured on video
France's BFMTV shared visuals of suspects cutting the display case open, while the museum visitors were around them! They used angle grinders to break the cases open, as per the reporters. Apparently, around five staff members of the Louvre were in the Apollon Gallery, where the heist took place, while the burglars broke in. As of today, forensic experts are examining the crime scene and compiling the inventory.
