Cancer patients can now travel free of charge on Kerala's KSRTC buses for treatment, and an order to this effect has been issued by the corporation. The patients can avail of the service on all KSRTC buses—from ordinary to superfast services —while travelling for radiation, chemotherapy, or other treatment-related matters. Earlier, only cancer patients travelling to the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) in Thiruvananthapuram were eligible for a 50% concession on ordinary and city service buses.

How to avail the service?
1. Cancer patients can apply for a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card through the Kerala SRTC website
2. They should upload a copy of their Aadhaar card, residential address proof, a certificate from their oncologist and a passport-size photograph.
3. Once the KSRTC headquarters verifies the documents, an RFID card will be delivered to the patient's residence by a unit officer.

Legal action for fake documents
If any documents submitted for the RFID card are found to be fake, the card will be cancelled, and legal action will also follow, the corporation said.
