KSRTC to launch dynamic pricing in interstate AC buses: How will it benefit passengers?
Mail This Article
KSRTC is all set to introduce dynamic pricing on inter-state bus routes to mitigate losses from vacant seats. In the initial stage, this system will be launched on premium AC buses running on the Bengaluru and Mysuru routes. KSRTC’s director board had approved the proposal to introduce dynamic pricing the other day. Meanwhile, the implementation date will be announced later. The authorities hope to cover the financial loss caused by buses running empty on one side on working days. Compared to KSRTC’s AC buses, the tickets in private buses are cheaper on regular days. Passengers can purchase discounted tickets when they book through booking apps.
How will it work
A certain percentage of first-seats on buses will be discounted. For example, this pricing can be implemented for 50% of the seats. The remaining 40% will be charged standard rates if booked a week before the scheduled service, and the other 10% of seats, booked within 24 hours of service, will be charged extra. This pricing style was first implemented by airlines. Later, railways also implemented it in special trains.
Premium AC on demand
Ninety per cent of Kerala RTC’s Bengaluru services have been upgraded to the AC premium category with the addition of brand–new buses to the fleet. Sleeper and seater cum sleeper buses have replaced the old AC seater buses. Although the tickets are a bit pricier, Kerala RTC has been able to lure passengers who previously preferred Karnataka RTC and private buses. Meanwhile, most AC services are scheduled to Thiruvananthapuram, Kottarakkara, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Thiruvalla, Pala and Kozhikode. Non-AC buses operate services to Vadakara, Kannur, Kanhangad and Thalassery.
