IndiGo has issued refunds worth ₹610 crore for flights that were either cancelled or faced major delays, and has reunited around 3,000 baggage items with travellers across India as of Saturday, the government said on Sunday.
According to the Centre, the aviation network is rapidly returning to normal, and all interim corrective measures will continue until operations are fully stabilised. A day earlier, the government instructed IndiGo to finish refunding passengers for cancelled flights by Sunday evening and to ensure that all stranded baggage is delivered within the next two days.
The civil aviation ministry reiterated that any baggage separated from passengers because of cancellations or long delays must be traced and handed over within 48 hours.
“IndiGo has so far processed refunds totalling Rs 610 crore. No additional fees are permitted for rescheduling travel impacted by cancellations. Dedicated support cells have been created to proactively assist passengers so that refund and rebooking issues are resolved without delay or inconvenience,” the ministry said in its statement.
The ministry added that it has acted quickly to mitigate the fallout from IndiGo’s recent operational breakdown and to prevent further inconvenience to travellers. It also noted that domestic air traffic is recovering swiftly.
While other Indian carriers are functioning normally and at full capacity, IndiGo has shown “steady improvement”, with its Sunday schedule gradually returning to normal levels, the government said.
IndiGo’s total flights rose from 706 on Friday to 1,565 on Saturday, and the airline is expected to operate up to 1,650 flights by the end of Sunday.
“With this push, IndiGo has successfully delivered 3,000 pieces of baggage to passengers across India as of Saturday,” it said, adding that continuous communication with travellers remains compulsory throughout the process.
