A few days ago, Kerala witnessed a controversy in which a woman in Kozhikode was fined for smashing the windows of a KSRTC bus, after her request to get down at a stop for a bathroom emergency wasn't met with. Now, KSRTC has introduced a new scheme under which you can get down or board the bus at a stop of your choice, provided you pay an extra fee. The bus stop need not be part of the bus's official halts.

The facility will be available first to KSRTC's superclass AC buses at an extra fee of ₹20. Eventually, it will be introduced in all buses with reservations. The fee can be paid online, and the conductor will ensure the same before the bus starts its journey. A few days ago, KSRTC introduced the 'gender ticketing' system to get a picture of the number of women passengers. The new government had assured that women would be given free rides on KSRTC buses, as part of its 'Indira guarantee' welfare schemes.
