Crispy fried chicken to be served on KSRTC buses: Rates, locations, how to order

Enjoying juicy, crispy fried chicken while travelling on a KSRTC bus in Kerala can be quite an experience, especially for foodies. To the delight of chicken lovers who regularly travel on KSRTC buses, a fried chicken counter will soon open at the KSRTC bus depot in Kottayam. Vegetarian food would also be served at the food counter here. 

Serving at the depot
Passengers can order fried chicken and other food items while travelling in the bus. The food would be served inside the bus when it reaches the depot. This is the first such counter in the district and the ninth in the state. The food counter in Kottayam is located in a spot that passengers can easily find as soon as the bus enters the depot.

The counter has been opened as part of the Rail Rolls KSRTC edition, a startup run by five youngsters in cooperation with KSRTC. They aim to serve clean, ‘hand-wash-free’ food to passengers at affordable rates. Meanwhile, passengers can order from an extensive menu featuring a variety of food items priced between ₹44 and ₹180. Besides, they can also check out Rail Rolls’ pocket-friendly combos. 

Similar food counters are located near the railway stations in Ernakulam and Kozhikode, while food is served at the KSRTC stands in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottarakkara, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Aluva. This is a statewide project that serves freshly cooked hot food at specific KSRTC bus depots for passengers travelling in both short-distance and long-distance buses. Such food counters will soon be opened in more depots across the state. These counters are operated at KSRTC bus depots as per an agreement signed by KSRTC when KB Ganeshkumar was the minister and the startup company. 

8 am to 12 am
The QR code for the counter would be affixed to all buses, including KSRTC’s premium buses. Passengers could scan the QR code to place the order. Meanwhile, the food will be served at the next depot or the KSRTC stand of their choice. Besides, passengers can also avail themselves of attractive discounts and combo offers. This startup project has been designed to provide a small income to the KSRTC. The food counters at the KSRTC depot function from 8 am to 12 am.
