Travellers flying to Oman have been urged to double-check their luggage as the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and the Directorate General of Customs issue a strict warning against carrying prohibited items. Transporting or attempting to import banned goods can result in confiscation, heavy fines, and severe legal consequences at customs.

Authorities have released a detailed list of restricted items to help passengers avoid common pitfalls. One key area of focus is clothing: travellers are strictly warned against carrying or wearing military-style uniforms or tactical gear that resembles military apparel. Packing such clothing in your luggage can lead to immediate delays and questioning by security officials.

List of banned items in Oman
The list of prohibited items compiled by Oman customs includes highly sensitive security and safety gear, as well as restricted luxury and tactical goods. Passengers are prohibited from bringing in narcotics, psychotropic substances, and explosives of any kind. All categories of weapons are banned, including concealed items such as walking sticks with hidden swords or spears. Additionally, toy guns, pistols, or replicas that resemble real firearms are forbidden, as are rifle scopes, night-vision devices, stun guns, tasers, and products made from ivory.

Regulations on counterfeits and intellectual property
The Royal Oman Police emphasised that any imports violating local laws, international agreements, or treaties are strictly forbidden. This also extends to counterfeit goods, forged products, items that do not meet approved quality and safety standards, and goods that violate intellectual property rights. Travellers planning their journey to Muscat or other destinations in Oman are advised to review their baggage thoroughly to ensure all packed items comply with the country's import regulations.
