Kalady Bridge closed at night for maintenance; diversions for passengers to Kochi airport

Commuters, particularly those heading to the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery, must prepare for detours, as the Sree Sankara bridge on the Main Central (MC) Road in Kalady will remain fully closed at night for a few days. The closure of the bridge, popular as the Kalady Palam, is for urgent repair and maintenance work, which begins tonight and will continue until July 25. According to an official statement from the Assistant Executive Engineer, the traffic ban will be in effect daily from 10 pm to 6 am. 

Since the bridge is a vital link connecting several regions to the airport and other parts of Ernakulam district, the authorities have mapped out specific alternative routes to prevent heavy congestion. Long-distance travellers and early-morning commuters are urged to plan their journeys well in advance to avoid missing flights or facing long delays.

Route diversions for commuters and airport travellers
1) For vehicles travelling from Angamaly via the MC Road, the traffic will be diverted through Aluva to reach Perumbavoor, and the same route must be taken for return journeys.
2) Vehicles heading towards Kothamangalam from Angamaly should take the Malayattoor-Kodanad bridge to reach Kuruppampady and then proceed to their destination.

Light vehicles bound for Kochi airport
1) Light vehicles travelling from Muvattupuzha and Perumbavoor to Cochin International Airport are advised to take a left turn at Vallam Junction on the Perumbavoor-Kalady road. From there, they can proceed via the Vallamkadavu-Parappuram bridge and travel through Kanjoor to reach the airport.
2) Commuters travelling from the airport towards Perumbavoor can also use this same route in reverse.
