Night traffic to be blocked on Kochi's Kalady bridge till August 14: Details

It's been two years since the construction of the new bridge in Kalady started. A recent meeting presided over by Minister Roji M John has instructed the authorities to complete the construction before January 15, 2027. The bridge has already had several failed deadlines. The minister has also asked to complete the maintenance works of the old bridge before Onam. They will have to be done by restricting traffic through the bridge. The Public Works Department (PWD) has decided to ban traffic on the bridge from 10 pm to 6 am from August 8 – 14 for urgent maintenance works. Big vehicles that are supposed to go from the Angamaly side to MC Road should take the Aluva Perumbavoor route and return via the same route. 

The diversions
Small vehicles from Angamaly should turn left at Mattoor near Kalady and take the Malayattoor–Kodanad bridge or Vallam route. Meanwhile, vehicles heading to the airport from Muvattupuzha and Perumbavoor sides should turn left at Vallam Junction between Perumbavoor and Kalady and take the Vallampuram – Parappuram bridge and Kanjoor route. These vehicles can use the same routes on their journey back home.
