Passengers travelling between Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur can look forward to a far more comfortable journey, as the popular Jan Shatabdi Express has commenced operations with brand new coaches. The upgraded rake comes equipped with reclining pushback seats and footrests, addressing long-standing complaints from regular commuters.

A long-overdue upgrade
The older coaches used on the route had been a major source of distress for long-distance commuters. Poor seat ergonomics and a complete lack of recline made extended travel exhausting, prompting a steady stream of complaints. The Thiruvananthapuram Division repeatedly raised the issue with Southern Railway headquarters, ultimately securing the newly designed coaches.

Relief for regular commuters
Passengers have welcomed the change. Dhaneela, a traveller from Kozhikode, shared that travelling on the Jan Shatabdi had previously become a nightmare due to severe back pain caused by the rigid seats. Another commuter, Ratheesh from Kottayam, noted that the new seats are significantly better and offer much-needed travel comfort.

More upgrades on the way
Railway officials confirmed that the Thiruvananthapuram-Kozhikode Jan Shatabdi Express will also be upgraded with similar pushback seat coaches in the near future. Meanwhile, commuters have urged railway authorities to make the Kannur Jan Shatabdi a daily service to accommodate the high passenger demand.
