The government has decided to launch a new Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus service connecting Kottayam to the famed pilgrimage destination of Velankanni via Kuravilangad. The decision follows high-level discussions between Minister Mons Joseph and Minister CP John.

Addressing public grievances
The move comes after widespread public dissatisfaction over a previous rerouting decision. The Changanassery–Velankanni Super Deluxe bus, which had operated through Kuravilangad and Koothattukulam for over 25 years, was diverted via Pala and Thodupuzha a few months ago. Although officials previously agreed to restore the original route, KSRTC backtracked at the last minute, triggering strong local protests. The introduction of this new service aims to resolve these commuters' concerns effectively.

Schedule and pilgrimage route
The newly planned service is scheduled to depart from Kuravilangad at 3 pm. Designed primarily to cater to pilgrims, the route will offer direct connectivity to major religious and cultural hubs, including Madurai, Thanjavur, and Velankanni, as confirmed by Minister Mons Joseph.

Service frequency and future plans
In the initial phase, the bus will operate twice weekly on Fridays and Saturdays. Minister Mons Joseph stated that if passenger patronage remains steady, the service will be converted into a regular daily operation. Minister CP John has directed KSRTC officials to organise the route details to ensure maximum convenience for the public, with local consultations planned to finalise the exact schedule.
