Passengers travelling between Madurai and Guruvayur are in for a visual treat soon. Indian Railways is all set to introduce a Vistadome coach on the Madurai–Guruvayur Express (train numbers 16327/16328). This marks the first time a train operating through Kerala will feature such a specialised coach, offering travellers panoramic views of the lush countryside.
The announcement was shared on Facebook by Kodikkunnil Suresh MP, who highlighted that the new service will boost tourism and offer families and travellers an upgraded commuting experience.
A scenic journey through nature
Fitted with wide glass windows and glass ceilings, Vistadome coaches are specifically designed to maximise sightseeing for tourists. The initiative is expected to make the journey along the picturesque Punalur and Kottarakkara route even more memorable, allowing passengers to experience the scenic beauty of the region up close.
In India, the vistadome coach was first introduced in 2017 on the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul (58501/58502) Passenger special train, where travellers could see the train climb a steep ascent from 11 metres above sea level to 996 metres. They could also see 58 tunnels, 84 bridges, the Kaitiki Waterfalls, green valleys and caves. It is also one of the most popular tourist experiences in Andhra Pradesh.
Service schedule and availability
The Vistadome coach will operate on designated days as per the following schedule:
For train number 16327 (Madurai to Guruvayur), the coach will be available from Oct 22, 2026 to Jan 15, 2027.
