Afan first targeted his grandmother at her residence in Pangode, using a hammer to bludgeon her to death. He then moved to his paternal uncle’s house at SN Puram, where he killed Latheef and Shahida. Finally, he returned home to Perumala, where he attacked his mother, younger brother, and girlfriend.
