The Last Family in the Forest | Life After the Landslide in Attamala

On July 30, 2024, two massive landslides tore through the forests of Mundakai and Chooralmala in Wayanad, Kerala. As tribal families fled, one remained. This is the story of Krishnan, a herbal plants and honey gatherer from the Kattunayakan tribe — the last man who refuses to leave the forest.

Krishnan, his pregnant wife Shantha, and their four children -- Balan, Appu, Kannan, and Unni -- live on the fringes of the Attamala forest, waiting for the rains to pass so they can return to a shallow rock shelter they once called home.
