Kasaragod Ward Member Builds a Life of Dignity for Two Abandoned Sisters

  • November 01 , 2025

In Kasaragod’s Chemnad panchayat, ward member Mariyam Mahin has stood by two sisters living with severe mental illness for over a decade. When the government announced its programme to eradicate extreme poverty, she ensured they were included in the list, and then went on to secured their documents and pensions, and even built them a safe home when they had nowhere to turn. A quiet, powerful story of dignity, duty, and what public service looks like when led by compassion. This report is part of our series on Kerala’s Extreme Poverty Eradication Programme.
