Eight years after the devastating 2018 floods, families in Kottayam find themselves back inside school classrooms turned into emergency relief centers.
We visited the relief camp at CMS Higher Secondary School, Kottayam—the first camp set up in the district during this flood season. Housing 96 people from 27 displaced families across Chungam, Malloossery, and Varissery, residents share their experiences of a sudden surge of water a that left with no time.
From local municipality services and daily medical care to the aftermath of snakes in submerged houses, we capture the reality on the ground. Supplies are arriving today, but the question is: What awaits them when the floodwaters recede?
