After a nervous, tension-filled polling on October 17, LBS College of Engineering, Kasaragod, chose its new union members. The United Democratic Students Front (UDSF) party made history by winning all the 7 union executive seats.

Polling was held between 9 and 10 am. Each class acted as a separate polling booth where, students without college ID cards were not permitted to vote.

Campus election was still held the traditional way - with students registering their vote on folded paper and depositing it to the ballot.

Candidates from each class then went on to witness the counting, while classes continued as normal, even as students waited with bated breath for the announcement.

Finally, UDSF was declared as the winners, with their representatives from 20 out of 35 classes winning fair and square. SFI candidates were elected representatives in 15 classes. The party, which formed the former college union, could not keep their position steady, as they lost by a wide margin in many classes. By 1 pm, the winning candidates were garlanded with blue and green ribbons and a troop marched around the campus.

Representatives took their oath on Tuesday afternoon. Victory celebrations were carried out afterwards, with sweets being distributed to students and teachers.

Nandagopal A of final year Computer Science Department was elected as the chairman and Nafeesath Marva from the Electronics and Communication Department was elected Vice Chairperson.

Students are hopeful of their new college union, which promises to bring back colour and fervor to the campus. They are already looking forward to AAWAZ 2k18, a cultural fest which will be held on November 16.
