Dancing and lecturing simultaneously is challenging, but it seems routine for dancer Dr. Kalamandalam Rajitha Ravi. Christ College, Irijalkuda, witnessed yet another solo dance perfomance by her recently. Her dance lecture demonstration helped students to grasp dance steps with ease.
Dr. Rajitha, a disciple of Prof. Kalamandalam Leelamma, started the dance with the 'Ganapathi slogam' written by Karthika Thirunal. She also performed the composition of Muthukad Venkida Subha Iyer’s ‘’GadajaTalam’’ and ‘’Gabeera Nada Talam’’.
She taught the students the basic steps (adavukal) that interconnected with the basic ragam and talam called 'cholkettu’.
The violin played by Vayalar Rajendaran and mridangam by Venu Kuramashery and the synchronised movements of the group mesmerised the audience.
Perhaps the highlight of the show was the ending sequence in which Dr. Rajitha wowed the audience with a unique choreography in accompaniment to the evergreen lullaby ‘’Omana Thinkal Kidavo’. Kalamadalam Karthikeyan’s soothing voice seemed to caress every step and gesture.
