The Government Law College, Ernakulam, is a hub of significant extra-curricular activities. The formation of the students' union of the current academic year after the elections has spurred such activities in the recent months. Among a host of developments were a farewell party organised for the outgoing students and the launch of a campus radio.

Drama Club

The Drama Club at the college was inaugurated by actor and theatre activist Santhosh Keezhattoor on October 31.

In his inaugural address, Santhosh talked about the history and evolution of Drama, the roots of Drama in Kerala and its current position. He put forward suggestions on how students can contribute to modern drama.

Santhosh shared his experiences and views of his recent play, "Pennadan", which gained him widespread appreciation. He expressed his concerns about the current happenings in India and the attempts of right-wing forces to attack freedom of thought and expression.

Sooraj T S, the College Union Chairman, presided over the function. After the inauguration, students were given the opportunity to exhibit their acting talents. Students entertained the dignitaries and the audience through one-act plays and mimicry. Further, a dance-drama was also staged with the theme of the famous "Poothapaattu".

The function officially ended with the vote of thanks rendered by Akshay Mohan, Drama Club Secretary.

Radio launch

The students' union launched an online radio service on November 1. It was inaugurated by film actress Honey Rose. Arts Club Secretary Baby Parvathy, who was formerly an RJ at Radio Mirchi, played a significant role in the launch of the radio service.

The radio service will be utilised by the various college clubs for disseminating information. Podcasts will be available so that all students have access.

Episodes are being released every month, collecting art pieces from students, their opinions about current issues and experiences in various competitions. It is a platform to showcase the talents of students. It also broadcasts advices from teachers and updates of activities going on in the college.

Farewell

The students' union of the college, meanwhile, organised a Farewell for the final-year students of both three-year and five-year courses on November 30. This was the first time that the college union hosted a joint farewell ceremony for the seniors. The function began with the cutting of a large cake. Seniors spoke, sang and danced at the function. A DJ party was also organised. All the teachers, non-teaching staff and students joined together to wish the seniors success for their new careers.
