The promises made to students during the election campaign by the college union 2018-19 of the Government Law College, Ernakulam are coming true.
An inter-class Graffiti competition titled "Pintura" was organised by the College Union on 15th January at the College Ground. The theme given was "Kerala Renaissance". Students participated in the competition with youthful exuberance. The competition began at 9 am and lasted till 5 pm in the evening. Different perspectives and interpretations of what students perceived of the Renaissance in Kerala were a feast to the eyes.

Several ideas were put forth by Baby Parvathy, the Arts Club Secretary on what all activities could be added to the ambit of the club. Some of her ideas included College Radio, Drama workshop (Nadaka Kalari), Facebook portal for Arts club announcements and competitions of various colleges and the Graffiti Competition, all of which have been successfully brought to life by the College Union.

On asking her how the idea of graffiti got into her mind, she said, " I still remember what I saw on a wall of one of our classrooms. It read , As long as walls exist, wall writings will continue. Then, I decided that I should give the students an opportunity to beautify all the walls in our college. Also, I wanted to record the talents of our students in a way that they never fade away." She believes that art is the mirror of the society and law college, especially uses art as a form of protest including all its creative and critical aspects.

Graffiti is a form of self-expression and adopting the theme of renaissance was to ensure that our walls talk of eternity. Renaissance is an inevitable topic in the current scenario and it is an ever-continuing process. The graffiti aims at taking the thoughts of students to the future.

Sports Club Secretary, Manu Sankar is also excited to see the walls of the ground standing vibrant. He recalls that last year Mathrukam, the women's wing of Students Federation of India, conducted an inter-class mixed football competition in the college, wherein each of the team consisted of both boys and girls.
It was organised with a view to eliminate the concept of gender inequality in the field of sports. He said, "Sports play a vital role in socialization. Painting the walls with renaissance will help the youth to break gender stereotypes."

The competition was judged by Mr. Gireesh, Art Director of Times of India. The first semester batch of 3 Year LLB Course won the first prize, and 5th semester Batch (5 year LLB) and 3rd Semester (3 Year LLB) won the second and third prizes respectively.
