Pondicherry: An academic discussion focusing the recent issues of Reservation and Citizenship bill was jointly organized by ASA, SIO, and MSF members of Pondicherry University.

Prominent academicians and activists were part of the program. Dr C Lakshmanan from Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS) has delivered a lecture on the issues with newly implemented 13 point roster system and the how it has paved the way for exclusions of faculties from marginal communities.

Dr Samarjit Kachari from the department of Electronic Media and Mass Communication, Pondicherry University spoke about the socio-political issues and the impacts of the citizenship bill in the northeast region of India. Political analyst Jalauddin and Dr Ansar Aboobacker spoke about the issues with 10% economic reservation and Democracy in Indian campuses respectively.

The upcoming of 13 point roster system as well as 10% reservation has created a large debate amongst the students and faculties in the universities a over nation. Different gatherings and protests against 13 point roster system in central universities is already in progress. Some of the students see these new systems as against the Constitution. 'These systems are systematically taking away the sure possibilities of representation of the underprivileged community of this country', says Rufus Sunny a student of the university.

Srutheesh Kannadi, scholar and student activist added that the discussion was organized as a dissent towards the recent interventions of central government and SC which paved the way for systematic exclusion of students and scholars from socially and historically backward communities. Students and faculties from various disciplines have turned out in support of the program held at Silver Jubilee campus of Pondicherry University.
