The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET–UG) will be held at multiple centres across the country on Sunday (May 5). Qualifying this entrance exam, popularly known as the NEET, is necessary to pursue an Under-Graduate (UG) career in the medical field.
While the exam is being conducted across India in various centres Sunday, the NEET exam has been postponed in Orissa owing to the severe cyclonic storm Fani which battered the state Friday, according to HRD official said. Revised dates will be announced later.
The rankings in the premier entrance determine the candidate's prospects of admission to the best medical and dental colleges in India. Here are a few guidelines and other relevant information about the test that you should note just before you proceed to your test venue.
NEET 2019 is a pen-and-paper test that will be conducted on May 5, between 2 pm and 5 pm across 154 cities in India. The three-hour exam will have 180 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) from Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Exam day Guidelines
1. It is mandatory to carry the NEET 2019 hall ticket, passport size photograph and a valid ID proof for verification purposes while appearing for the test. Any change in the photograph as uploaded in the application form will not be accepted.
2. Candidates are requested to reach the exam hall on or before 1 pm.
3. Communication devices, eatables, ornaments, stationery items or any such things are not allowed inside the examination hall. Candidates will be provided with a ball-point pen.
4. No packed food will be allowed in the hall. Diabetic candidates are allowed to bring eatables (fruits) with prior verification and notification.
5. NTA is not responsible for your belongings. Candidates are requested to make their own arrangements or avoid bringing them to the exam hall.
6. Candidates are not allowed to leave the examination hall until the test is declared conducted. Students are not allowed to take restroom breaks in between the test. It is mandatory to sign the answer sheet at the beginning of the NEET exam and again after the conclusion of the examination.
7. Candidates must ensure that the code in the test booklet is the same as the one provided on the answer sheet.
8. It is mandatory to follow the NTA dress code.
NTA dress code for NEET 2019
1. Light-coloured and half-sleeve cloths are allowed in the examination hall. Full-sleeve or heavy embroidered work will not be permitted.
2. Shoes are not allowed in the examination hall, while candidates are allowed to wear sandals and slippers with low heel.
3. Candidates who opt to wear customary dresses like burqa/ turban must report to the exam hall at least one hour prior the exam.
Marking Scheme
Maximum mark: 720 marks
+4 marks for the right answer, -1 mark for the wrong answer and 0 marks for unattended question.
Section: Physics= 45 Questions
Chemistry=45 Questions
Biology=90 Questions.
New agency
This year the National Testing Agency (NTA), a new body will be conducting the NEET 2019 examination. Last year it was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Seats on offer
NEET 2019 is primarily conducted for admission to 66,771 MBBS and 27,148 BDS seats in India. Other admissions also includes AYUSH, B.Sc and Animal Husbandry medical courses. (Please note AIIMS and JIPMER conduct separate entrance exams for their undergraduate courses.)
NEET Exam- Eligibility
1. The candidate must at least be 17 years in age as on 31 December 2019
2. The age of the candidate must not be more than 25 years as on 5 May 2019
3. The candidates who wish to appear for the exam must have qualified Class 12 examination or must be appearing for the same in 2019.
4. In the qualifying exam, the candidates must have scored an aggregate of 50% (for unreserved), 45% (for physically handicapped -PH) and 40% (for reserved including the PH reserved) in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
