Thiruvananthapuram: Chengannur Providence College of Engineering has bagged the SAGY Initiatives Award for their exemplary work in Aryad panchayath, adopted under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana programme in 2018.
Dr KG Balakrishnan, Director of Providence College, received the award from Dr KT Jaleel, Minister for Higher Education at a felicitation ceremony held at Priyadarshini Planetarium in the capital.
Robin James, who dons the role of both a mechanical engineering professor and NSS program officer at the college, was selected as the Best Sagi Officer.
Dr KP Indira Devi, Technical Education Director of Kerala, Kerala Technological University Vice-Chancellor Dr Rajashree MS, AICTE Advisor Prof Dileep N Malkhede, AICTE Director Dr Ramesh Unnikrishnan, CAPT Director Dr M Abdul Rahman and SAGY nodal officer Dr Abdul Jabbar Ahmed were the other dignitaries present.
Aryad village was adopted under the then Allapuzha MP KC Venugopal's supervision. Together with the support of panchayat president Kavitha Haridas and her other associates, the students of Providence College were able to instate 14 projects which include a high-scale wastewater purification system, data collection and job fairs for the unemployed, energy conservation programs, workshops on digital money transactions and more. These successful projects were key to Providence College securing the prestigious award.
Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana is a rural development programme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 with the vision to build a New India by enabling transformations to stem from the village-level. Each Member of Parliament adopts a village in his or her constituency and see to its holistic development.
