Hyderabad: The campus of the Hyderabad Central University here witnessed tension as various student bodies protested against the central government's decision to repeal Article 370(1) and 35(A) of the Indian Constitution which granted special status and privileges to the state of Jammu and Kashmir and its people. The University authorities banned 'protests and agitations' on the campus citing prohibitory orders issued a fortnight earlier by the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate in its area.
Students had attempted to burn posters, banners and the effigy of Union Home Minister Amit Shah after they gathered on Monday evening, hours after the news broke out.
Police as well as the personnel of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed in the Cyberabad police limits.
The protestors were dispersed as the police arrived. Students were shooed away towards their hostels to prevent further agitation.
Meanwhile, students affiliated to the righ-wing unions hailed the decision of the central government to repeal Article 370 and 35(A).
A few Kashmiri students are reportedly studying in the HCU.
Strangely, the police authorities claimed no prohibitory orders have been issued, though the university cited a police order in this regard.
The Cyberabad police jurisdiction covers the area where the IT sector is based.
