Kuttikkanam: According to a UNESCO report dated March 26, more than 1.5 billion learners across the globe are affected by school and university getting shut due to COVID-19 outbreak.

The Global Education Coalition by UNESCO is trying to encourage comprehensive learning opportunities for understudies during this time of unexpected and exceptional educational interruption.

One of the major crisis faced by the educational institutions of Kerala is the proper conduction of examinations.

However, students of Marian College Kuttikkanam found it easy to appear for exams and submission of assignments with the extensive use of Information and Communication Technology. "It was during our 3rd internals, which is the model examination, that the declaration regarding suspension of exams was issued. Soon we were allowed to appear for the same and to submit assignments over the internet," says Joel Joseph, a BCA student.

Examination was conducted using the Moodle platform of the college for the first year UG and PG students. It was set with a maximum time limit of two hours and all the questions were of application level. Earlier, Moodle platform was used by the college in the conduct of first and second internal examinations which are of objective type questions.

Assignment submissions were through the Moodle platforms as well as social media

platforms. Topics of the same aimed in the conversion of theories to practice. "We focused on increasing the student's critical thinking capacity rather than asking them to mug up the theories," says Arun George Joseph, faculty from MMH department.

The college also took efforts to provide maximum study materials online, as classes remain closed indefinitely.
