Students who missed out on the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination held on September 13 amid the pandemic will now get another chance to take the exam.
The Supreme Court intervened on Monday directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to arrange for another exam on October 14 (Wednesday) for those students who were unable to attend it the first time on account of them having tested COVID positive or being within containment zones.
It is estimated that at least 1.5 lakh students were unable to attend the NEET exam on account of COVID restrictions. Many had taken to social media to voice their concerns.
The apex court had also asked that the results of the first exam be withheld and only be released on October 16.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET 2020) was held on September 13 in various parts of India. Originally scheduled for April and May this year, it was postponed in the aftermath of the coronavirus outbreak.
Around 25 lakh students registered for the JEE examination while around 16 lakh students appeared for NEET entrance exams this year.
The results, when out, may be downloaded from the official website, ntaneet.nic.in. The National Testing Agency has already released the NEET provisional answer keys of all the sections of the NTA NEET test and NEET OMR sheets of the candidates.
