How an Alappuzha 'chaiwala' happened to don the police khaki

Mararikkulam: While serving hot tea to police personnel at the Mararikulam police station Mithun developed a deep love for the khaki uniform.

Mithun, who used to go to the police station with glasses full of coffee and tea from his father's tea shop not long ago, is currently under training for the position of a civil police officer at the Police Academy.

His father Manoharan who has been serving tea to the cops deployed in Mararikulam police station for past many years now has a burning desire. He wants to go to the police station with a glass of tea for his son who is all set to return as a policeman.

The 23-year-old used to assist his father in the tea stall located near the police station, since his school days.

While doing his B.Sc Botany from S N College Cherthala, Mithun took coaching for Public Service Commission (PSC) exams. It was on the suggestion of Manoj, a police officer posted in Mararikulam, that he started preparing for the police test.

His hard work bore fruit. When the 2018 PSC examination result was published last year, Mithun was elated to secure the 415 rank. Subsequently, he cleared the physical test.

The training at Police Academy at Ramavarma Puram in Thrissur began on December 2, paving the way for uniformed service. Mithun's sister Manisha is also taking PSC coaching at the moment.
