Keralite student wins Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar

New Delhi: A Class-12 student from Kerala is among the 32 children chosen for this year's 'Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar', the erstwhile National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement.

Hrudya R Krishnan of Christ Nagar School at Kowdiar in Thiruvananthapuram city has been chosen for the prestigious award for her exceptional skills in playing the veena, a popular stringed musical instrument.  

Thirty-two children have been chosen for the Bal Puraskar for excellence in the fields of arts, culture, sports, bravery, social service, innovative ideas and scholastic achievements.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with these talented children on Monday via video-conferencing.

Hrudya, the daughter of Dr S Ramarkishnan and Mangala, is also a recipient of a central government scholarship granted by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training and the Kerala government's Ujjwala Balyam award.

Hrudya had got the opportunity to play veena at Raj Ghat during the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. She had also won prizes at the state school youth festival.
