New Delhi: The pattern of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG for admission to MBBS and other medical courses this year would not be changed, said Amit Khare, Secretary for Higher Education, Government of India.

The clarification was issued after several reports appeared regarding the conduct of NEET-2021 along the lines of JEE, which is held online over several sessions.

According to the Secretary, NEET-2021 will take place in June or July and would follow the same pattern as last year. An announcement regarding the date of the exam would be made soon, he added.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education had announced that the syllabus of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) would remain unchanged for 2021.

NEET 2020 was deferred due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Later, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the NEET on September 13, 2020.

More than 13 lakh students had appeared for the exam and a total of 7,71,500 candidates made the cut. Last year, the test was offered in 11 languages - English, Urdu, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Odia, Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati, Tamil and Telugu.

The NEET is the gateway exam for admissions to undergraduate medical courses like MBBS and BDS in India. It is also the largest entrance exam in India based on the number of participants.
