Kerala to resume digital classes on June 1, virtual reopening ceremony to be held

Thiruvananthapuram: Digital classes for Standard 1 to 10 will resume on KITES-VICTERS channel on June 1, and university examinations will commence on June 15 after the lifting of restrictions imposed to check the spread of COVID-19, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

The channel would be holding the bridge course during the initial two weeks, revising important portions from the previous academic year’s syllabus.

A review meeting of the quality improvement programme, chaired by Education Minister V Sivankutty, decided to commence Plus-Two classes in June on conclusion of the Plus-One course.

A decision on conducting the examination of Plus-One students would be made in consultation with the chief minister.

Sivankutty called for a joint effort to make available mobile phones, tablets or computers to students. He said students need support along with the continuation of online classes.

A majority of vice-chancellors of various universities, who attended a meeting convened by the Minister for Higher Education, favoured in-person examinations for University students. The Kerala Technical University, however, decided to opt for online exams for final semester students.

Virtual reopening ceremony

State-level school ‘pravesanotsavam’ (school reopening ceremony) would be held virtually in compliance with COVID-19 protocol at Thiruvananthapuram on June 1, the Education Minister said.

The reopening ceremony will be held at two levels. A programme will be telecast on the KITE-VICTERS channel at 9:30am. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayana and Education Minister will participate in the programme. A cultural programme organised by the students will follow. The inauguration of the event will occur at Cotton Hill School, Thiruvananthapuram.

Last year's online classes will not be re-telecast this year. We shall try to organise more interactive sessions with the teachers, Education Minister said.

Engineering, pharmacy entrance exam on July 24

The Kerala State Engineering/Pharmacy Entrance exam would be conducted on July 24. The Physics and Chemistry exams would be held from 10am to 12:30pm, followed by Mathematics from 2:30pm to 5pm the same day.

Online applications for Engineering and Medical entrance examinations would be accepted from June 1. A detailed notification would be issued later.

Considering the pandemic situation, students have been asked to mention their taluk and district while applying for the entrance test, so that they could be allotted an exam centre in their respective taluks itself, wherever possible.

A taluk would be allotted an exam centre if it has at least 60 students taking the test.
