New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will reintroduce Communicative English and Communicative Sanskrit subjects in Class 9 for the academic year 2022 – 23 and subsequently in Class 10 for 2023–24.

The board had discontinued these language papers in 2018.

CBSE has asked schools to provide an estimate of the number of students who would be interested in opting for the subjects.

The decision has been made in line with the recommendation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 regarding the availability of all subjects and corresponding assessments at two levels as per the needs and interest of the students.

Communicative options focuses on communication in the target language and every day usage, while the core paper deals with literature, writing and reading. The students can choose the papers as per their needs and interest.

In the case of Mathematics both Standard and Basic levels are available for study. Basic Maths is for those who do not want to pursue the subject in higher classes and the Standard Maths is meant for those who want to study Mathematics as a subject in Classes 11 and 12.

Hindi too is taught at two different levels -- A and B. Similar options are likely to be made available for other subjects too.
