NRIF ranking: IIT Madras ranked best institution in India

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology Madras has retained its top spot in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for the third consecutive year. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Begaluru and IIT Bombay has bagged the second and third positions respectively. Jawarhalal Nehru University in Delhi scored the 9th rank while the Banaras Hindu University is on the tenth spot.

In the best architecture institute category, the National Institute of Technology in Kozhikode is in the second position. Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode has secured the fourth rank in the management category. Thiruvananthapuram Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology is on the 11th spot in the best medical college category.

IISc Bengaluru has topped the lists in both the best university and research institute categories. The best college in India is the Miranda House in Delhi. IIM Ahmadabad is the best college for management studies and IIT Rourkee is the top architecture college in the country. The National Law School of India, Bengaluru is the best institute for legal studies while AIMS, Delhi came on top among the best medical colleges. Jamia Hamdard in Delhi bagged the top spot in the best pharmacy college category and the Manipal College of Dental Sciences is the best dental college in the country.

Kerala lags behind
New Delhi: Last year, 20 colleges from Kerala were featured in the list of 100 best colleges in India. However, this year, it has come down to 19 colleges. University of Kerala that was ranked 42nd in the overall ranking last year slid down to 43rd position. Meanwhile, Mahatma Gandhi University is on the 52nd position (last year it was 49). In the best university category, the University of Kerala dropped to 27th position from last year’s 23rd rank.

MG grabbed 31st rank in this category. CUSAT, meanwhile, significantly improved its position to 44th rank from last year’s 62. However, University of Calicut dropped to 60th spot from 54. Kozhikode IIM that had 6th rank in the management category last year managed to bag 4th spot in the latest ranking. Meanwhile, Kozhikode NIT that was on 3rd spot last year in the architecture category came on 2nd position. In the engineering category, NIT dropped to 25th rank from 23. The University College in Thiruvananthapuram too dropped to 25 from 23, in the best college category.
