Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Government has decided to advance by a week the commencement of classes for Standard 8.

The classes will commence on Monday, November 8, instead of November 15, as was announced earlier.

The date has been advanced in view of the National Achievement Survey, 2021, to be held on November 12. This will enable students of Standard 8 too to participate in the survey.

Schools had reopened on November 1 after a gap of 19 months in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The classes of Standards 1 to 7, Standard 10 and the higher-secondary Plus-2 are currently on.

Offline classes were to be held for Standards 8 to 11 till November 15.

National Achievement Survey or NAS is a large-scale, pan-India survey of students' learning organised by the Union Ministry of Education. It is carried out to ascertain the effectiveness of school education.
