Join BDes, MDes courses in NIFT; apply before Jan 17

Fashion designing has evolved into a multi-dimensional artistic area where the incredible scope of IT too has been used. Students should have a flair for drawing and painting.

Applications are invited for various undergraduate and post-graduate programmes at the 17 campuses of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). Kannur in Kerala too has an NIFT campus.

The last date for application is 17 January, 2022.Candidates can apply until 22 January by paying a late fee of Rs 5,000.

Non-Resident Indians and Overseas Citizen Of India can apply till 30 April.

Final-year students too can apply. There is no minimum-mark criterion. However, guidelines regarding the age limit for various programmes should be followed.

Reservations are available as per the guidelines of the central government.

The entrance tests for all the programs is on 6 February, 2022.

The fee for the four-year Bachelor programmes would be around Rs 13 lakh and it is exclusive of the accommodation charges.

Programmes and Eligibility
A) Bachelor of Design (BDes) – 4 years in fashion/leather/textile/knit wear/accessory designing/fashion communication. The candidate should have a minimum qualification of plus two or an AICTE-approved diploma of at least three years.

B) Bachelor of Fashion Technology in Apparel Production (B.FTech) – 4 years; plus two with Maths and Physics.

C) Master of Design (MDes) – 2 years; Graduation or NID/NIAFT diploma of at least three years. The candidate should know the basic aspects of designing as these wouldn’t be taught in the course.

D) Master of Fashion Management (MFM) – 2 years; graduation of NIFT/NID diploma of at least three years.

E) Master of Fashion Technology (M.FTech) – 2 years; any BTech or B FTech from NIFT.

Courses at Kannur
B Des programmes in Fashion/textile/knit-wear design and fashion communication; B.FTech in apparel production, design; and master's programmes in fashion management.

Each course has 34 seats. Besides, seven additional seats have been allowed in every course for natives of Kerala.

Meanwhile, 3 seats are reserved for NRIs/foreigners.

Ability tests

The entrance tests for all the programs have been scheduled on 6 February at 32 centres around the country including in Kochi, Kannur, Coimbatore, Mumbai and Delhi.

The results would be announced by the second week of March.

The situation test, group discussion and interview would be held in April and the final list would be published in May.

Besides the General Ability Test (GAT), there would also be a Creative Ability Test (CAT) in the written exam for admission to the BDes and MDes programmes. The candidates of BDes programmes who score well in the written test would be invited for the situation test.

There is only General Ability Test for B.FTech.

Group discussion and interview are held for the PG programmes.

Candidates who have an in–depth idea about the syllabus and the method of the entrance test and those who undergo specific training in these usually get selected.

Model questions have been published on the website.

The candidates must bear in mind that it would be difficult to get through the multi-layered entrance test with their drawing or painting talents alone.
