Gender-neutral uniform for first-year PG students of Kanjirappally college

Kanjirappally: The first-year post-graduate students of St Dominic’s College here on Kottayam district will wear the same uniform hereafter.

The decision to introduce gender-neutral uniform for the new batch of students in the six PG departments of the college was welcomed by both the students and the parents.

In all 92 female and 8 male students will now wear pants and shirt in the same colour and pattern to the college. In the first phase, uniform has been introduced for the first-year students in MA Economics, English, MCom, MSc Chemistry, Botany and Mathematics departments.

The students too are thrilled about the latest change. Earlier, the female students used to wear salwar and overcoat, while the men wore pants and shirt. Meanwhile, the college authorities said that gender neutral uniform has been introduced after seeking the opinions and preferences of the students too.

Around 2,000 students study in 13 batches in the college. The college authorities plan to introduce uniforms for all the students in multiple phases.
