Thiruvananthapuram: Schools in Kerala are set to welcome back students after a prolonged shutdown over COVID-19 fears. A mega cleaning and disinfection drive would be held on the school campuses in the state on Saturday and Sunday.

The schools would resume full-day classes with entire strength from Monday, February 21, onwards, a first since the shutdown announced with the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020.

General Education Minister V Sivankutty has written to all student, youth and labour organisations to become part of the school cleaning programme. Many organisations have promised to cooperate in this mega cleaning campaign.

The minister would take part in the cleaning at the SMV Government Model Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananathapuram.

Mayor Arya Rajendran, Director of Public Education K Jeevan Babu and Thiruvananathapuram district collector Navjot Khosa too would be part of the campaign.

Meetings are being convened by the district collectors, of various departments, to review the preparations. Meanwhile, PTA meetings are conducted at the schools to discuss various matters.
