IIPS, Mumbai: Apply now for PG, PhD and Post-Doctoral programmes

Demographic research and studies are inevitable while planning national-level developmental activities that could be beneficial for the welfare of communities. International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) in Mumbai has been a pioneering institute for training and research in population studies since 1956.

This institute that began with financial assistance and sponsorships from the United Nations Organisation, the Government of India and Sir Dorabji Tata Trust has now been recognised as a deemed university. It functions under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Aspirants who have a bachelor’s degree, with Mathematics and Statistics as core subjects, can apply to the various programs until 30 March. Selected candidates would get monthly fellowships.

Entrance test
The online entrance test for the first four programmes in the list has been scheduled on 1 May. The classes would begin on 11 July. The fee structure is reasonable and affordable. Programmes
1) MA/MSc Population Studies: The two-year long course has 55 seats. The applicants should have passed bachelor’s degree in any subject with 55% marks. However, they shouldn’t exceed 25 years of age as on 30 June, 2022. Monthly fellowship - Rs 5,000.

2) MSc Bio–Statistics and Demography: 55 seats are up for grabs for this two-year long programme. Those who have passed bachelor’s degree in Bio–Statistics/ Health Statistics/ Maths, Statistics, with 55% marks can apply. Candidates who have done any bachelor’s degree with Maths or Statistics as full papers too could apply. The age shouldn’t exceed 25 years as on 30 Jun,e 2022. Monthly fellowship – Rs 5,000.

3) Master of Population Studies: This one-year course has 55 seats. The applicants should have a master’s degree, with 55% marks, in one of these subjects – Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Sociology, Social Work, Anthropology, Geography, Political Science, Rural Development, Bio–Statistics, Development Studies, Health Statistics, Population Studies and Population Education. Those who have master’s degrees in other subjects, but has an experience of at least two years in Population/ Health sectors too can apply. The age shouldn’t exceed 28 years as on 30 June, 2022. Monthly Fellowship – Rs 5,000.

4) PhD Population Studies/Bio–Statistics and Demography: The course lasts for up to 2 to 6 years. The applicants shouldn’t exceed 30 years of age as on 30 June, 2022. They will get monthly fellowships as per the central government’s guidelines. Refer the admission bullet for admission criteria.

5) Part–time PhD: There is no age restrictions for this programme lasting 4 to 6 years. Two seats are available. However, no fellowship will be provided for the candidates.

6) Post-doctoral fellowship: The one-year program has 5 seats. The age shouldn’t exceed 40 years as on 30 June, 2022. Selected candidates would get a monthly fellowship of Rs 50,000 and house rent too. The candidates have to reach the centre for in– person admission process. The application is open until 30 June for this course.

Candidates eligible for reservation require 50% marks for applying to various programmes.

Final-year students whose results would be announced within 30 September too can apply.

Reservations are available for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections and Persons with Disabilities.

The application processing fee is Rs 1,000. Other Backward Classes need to pay Rs 500. The fee is Rs 250 for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Persons with Disabilities.
