AICTE to fix minimum fees for BTech, MBA?

New Delhi: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is reportedly making a move to fix minimum fees for technical education courses, such as BTech and MBA, in the self-financing sector.

An expert committee is learned to have handed over the report, and the recommendations are likely to be implemented in the next academic year. The minimum annual fee for BTech could be fixed between Rs70,000-Rs75,000, according to sources.

In 2015, the AICTE had fixed the maximum fee, that can be levied for courses at technical education institutions, on the basis of a report submitted by the Justice B N Srikrishna Commission. As per the report, the maximum annual fee for BTech was fixed between Rs1.44 lakh and Rs1.58 lakh.

The fees for MBA, MCA and hotel management courses had also been capped. However, there were no directives on the matter of minimum fees.
