The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Common University Entrance Test (CUET - PG 2022) for admission to postgraduate (PG) programmes in the last week of July.

Thirty-five central universities, six state universities and one deemed university have currently opted for the CUET. These include the Central University of Kerala, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Banaras Hindu University, University of Hyderabad, The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad, and Pondicherry University.

Check the websites for information on the courses offered by each university.

Exam centres

There are a total of 554 entrance exam centres across India, including in all districts of Kerala. There are also 13 foreign centres, such as Dubai, Kuwait, Bahrain, Muscat, Doha, Sharjah, Riyadh, and Singapore.

Candidates have to select four exam centres of their choice. But they can only choose the centres in states where they are currently residing or in the state with the permanent addresses.

The computer-based test will be held in two slots in the morning and afternoon. The 2-hour slots are from 10am and 3pm. Only one course can be applied for in one slot.

Eligibility criteria

After deciding the university and the course you wish to apply for, ensure that you are eligible for admission by checking appendix-VIII of the brochure. For the same course, various universities could stipulate eligibility criteria.

For example, compare the eligibility criteria for BEd admission at the Central University of Jharkhand and Central University of Haryana (page 77).

There is no age limit to appear for the test. But candidates need to comply with the eligibility criteria of the universities where they wish to apply.

Reservation pattern

Reservation is available for eligible categories. The quotas are: Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) 10% of seats, Other Backward Classes (OBCs) 27%, Scheduled Castes 15%, Scheduled Tribes 7.5%, and Persons with Disability 5% in each category.

The fee for OBCs and EWS applicants is Rs 600 and Rs 150; for SC/ST and Transgenders Rs 550 and Rs 150; and for Persons with Disabilities Rs 500 and Rs 150.

For centres outside India the fee is Rs 4,000. It is only Rs 1,000 for those allowed fee relaxation.

Corrections can be made on the application forms from June 20 to June 22.

Candidates can also install the SANDES app as another platform to receive NTA notifications. Using Umang and DigiLocker, candidates can also download documents such as the confirmation page, admit card and score card.

Question paper structure, score

The common entrance is held method by way of 'one paper' to determine the eligibility for PG admission to similar subjects. Example: candidates have to write the common paper ‘PGQP52’ for M Tech, M Des and M Sc courses on subjects such as Electronics Design & Technology, Electronics & Communication, Micro Electronics Engineering, and Digital Communications.

For most papers, there are two parts: A and B with 25 and 75 objective type multiple-choice questions, respectively.

Part A will be a general paper, while Part B will have questions on domain knowledge. In certain papers, all 100 questions will be given together (brochure page 13).

Each correct answer will fetch 4 marks, while one mark will be deducted for the incorrect answer.

For multi-shift papers, actual marks obtained in different shifts will be converted to the NTA score. For the procedure on the compilation of the NTA score, check the appendix-IV of the brochure.

No re-evaluation

There will be no re-evaluation of the results or answers. The syllabus for each paper will be published on the NTA website. The Universities can prepare the rank list based on total score or only on the score obtained in part B.

However, the candidates cannot secure the admission only on the basis of the score of this exam. Applications must also be submitted at the universities of their choice in the prescribed criteria.  This score can be used by any institution for admission as per their criteria.
