Vidyakiranam scheme: Scholarships await wards of physically challenged parents

Thiruvananthapuram: Applications for the Vidyakiranam scheme of the Kerala Government that aims to provide financial aid to the wards of financially backward and physically disabled parents could be submitted until 30 July.

The applicants should belong to the Below Poverty Line category. To avail the scholarship, the father or mother of such students should have disability for at least 40% or more. Besides, these students shouldn’t be the beneficiaries of other educational financial assistance. Moreover, they should be students of government approved institutes/ courses.

Quantum of aid
Students from class one to five would get a monthly scholarship of Rs 300, while Rs 500 would be allowed for classes six to ten. Students of Plus-One and Plus-Two classes and Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) and other equivalent courses would get Rs 750.

Meanwhile, Rs 1,000 per month would be allowed for graduate and post-graduate students and those who are studying at polytechnic, other equivalent training courses and professional courses.
