Kerala universities, colleges improve positions in latest NIRF rankings

MG University, Kottayam was the best ranked Kerala university with a ranking of 51.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) which ranks the universities, colleges and research institutes in the country has published the list for 2022.

The results were announced by the Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday.

In the overall standings, three universities from Kerala featured in the top 100. Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam grabbed the 51st rank while the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram was placed 52nd. Meanwhile, Cochin University of Science and Technology is in the 69th spot.

In the universities' section, MG bagged the 30th rank while the University of Kerala was placed 40th. CUSAT was ranked 41st and the University of Calicut features 69th on the list.

In last year’s rankings, the University of Kerala had scored the highest rank among the universities in Kerala. MG was placed in 31st position then.

In the list of best colleges in India, the colleges in Kerala fared impressively with the University College in Thiruvananthapuram leading at 24th rank.

The other institutions from Kerala that feature in the list are, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences in Kochi (27), St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam (37), Mar Ivanios, Thiruvananthapuram (50), Government College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram (53), Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam (56), Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara (58), Sacred Heart College, Thevara (59), Ernakulam Maharaja's College (60), Saint Berchmans College, Changanassery (62), St. Thomas College, Thrissur (63), St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri (78), CMS College, Kottayam (81), Government Victoria College, Palakkad (85), Bishop Kurialacherry College for Women, Amalagiri, Kottayam (89), Fatima Mata National College, Kollam (92) and UC College, Aluva (97). The best college in India is Miranda House in Delhi.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in Coimbatore has 31st rank in the category of best research institutes in India. The Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru bagged the first rank in this category too.

With 31st rank, the National Institute of Technology in Kozhikode is the top ranking engineering institute in Kerala. The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram with 43rd rank and the Indian Institute of Technology, Palakkad with 68th rank are the other engineering institutes from Kerala that featured in the list. Indian Institute of Technology, Madras bagged the first rank in this category too.

The Indian Institute of Management in Kozhikode secured the fifth rank in the category of best management institutes. Meanwhile, Rajagiri Business School in Kochi was ranked 74th. National Institute of Technology in Kozhikode is featured in the 84th position. The Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad is the best in this category.

In the category of best pharmacy colleges, Al Shifa College of Pharmacy, Perinthalmanna, with 96th position, is the only entrant in Kerala. Meanwhile, Jamia Hamdard University in New Delhi scored the first rank.

Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology came at 9th position in the best medical institutes category. All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi bagged the first rank. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in Coimbatore is placed at 8th position and Velloor Christian Medical College got the 3rd rank

With 30th rank, Government Dental College in Thiruvananthapuram is the only entrant in the list of best dental colleges in India. Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences came on top in this category. Meanwhile, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was 19th.

No law colleges from Kerala featured in the list of best law institutes. The National Law School of India in Bengaluru is the best law institute in India.

National Institute of Technology in Kozhikode bagged the 2nd spot in the category of architectural institutes. Meanwhile, the College of Engineering in Thiruvananthapuram was placed 19th. Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee bagged the first rank in this category.
