Kochi: The Kerala High Court has instructed the self-financing colleges to not take any action against the students of BPL categories, including rustication, until 23 August, for non-payment of fees. The court had earlier asked the government to make it clear as to how these students would pay the fee after it has withdrawn the scholarship for BPL students. Justice Devan Ramachandran issued such instruction as the government pleader had sought more time in this matter. The court said that it is applicable to all the students who belong to the BPL category. The case will be considered again on 23 August.

The court was considering the pleas filed by many students including an MBBS student from Koyilandi alleging that the government has withdrawn the BPL scholarship and that the colleges would dismiss them if they failed to pay the fees.
