Thiruvananthapuram: In all 19,430 candidates ensured admission to Plus-One courses in the second allotment for schools following the Kerala state syllabus. The admission process as per the latest allotment would end at 5 pm on Wednesday, August 17.
In all 17,846 candidates who sought temporary admission in the lower options after the first allotment got upgraded to their first options in the second allotment.
Among a total of 2,97,759 merit seats, allotments have been done to 2,32,962 seats. Totally, 64,797 seats remain vacant in this category.
Meanwhile, allotment has been done to all the seats, barring four, among the 1,44,256 general seats. Even though 73 more candidates got allotment in the sports quota, 5,298 seats still remain vacant. There are 7,566 seats in this quota.
One more week
The admission process would be completed by 24 August and the classes have been scheduled to begin on 25 August.
The last allotment would be published on 22 August.
Uncertainty about 6,705 seats
Meanwhile, there is uncertainty about 6,705 seats in 307 schools following an appeal against the Kerala High Court order that scrapped 10% community quota in those institutions run by upper-caste managements. This includes the 10% additional seats that were retrieved by the government from the private school managements.
The decision about these seats would be taken only after the appeals are considered. If there is no change in the High Court order, then the admission to these seats would be based on the single-window admission system. However, if the decision doesn’t come before the supplementary allotment is published, then the admission to these seats would be jeopardised.
Supplementary allotment
Those who are not in fray for Plus-One admission will get a chance in the upcoming supplementary allotment. This could be made use of by the following categories:
1) those denied allotment in the first stage,
2) those whose applications got rejected due to mistakes in details/information provided,
3) those who didn’t give the final confirmation, and
4) those who haven’t applied until now.
Total applicants
In all 4,71,849 candidates applied for Plus-One courses this year.
After the first allotment, 23,285 candidates who didn’t secure temporary admission and 1,333 candidates who had entered wrong details were excluded from the admission process.
