Maths Olympiad: Register for Qualifier now

Students of classes 8 to 12 can now register to attend the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM), 2022–23. The registration closes on 8 September.

The International Mathematical Olympiad will be held in Chiba, Japan.

What is it?
The Maths Olympiad is a national-level championship to recognize the mathematical abilities of secondary and higher secondary students. It opens a pathway to participate in the prestigious International Mathematical Olympiad and to introduce students to the amazing scope of Maths as a career.

The competition is held by the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) that comes under the Department of Atomic Energy. The NBHM has entrusted the Mathematics Teachers Association to conduct the preliminary stages.

Eligibility
The applicants should not be born before 1 August 2003 and after January 2010. The students of Kendriya Vidyalas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas too can write the exam. The candidates should be eligible to get the Indian passport. Besides, they should be studying in India from at least 30 October 2020 onwards. They could also be studying under the Indian school system from this date. However, the applicants should not have completed class 12 before 30 October 2022.

Even though the Overseas Citizens of India card holders too can write the exam, they will not be considered for the international Olympiad. They cannot participate beyond the training camp for the International Olympiad.

Date, duration, marks
IOQM has been scheduled on 30 October. The 3-hour exam would carry a total of 100 marks. There is no negative mark for the wrong answer.

The best 600 candidates, irrespective of regional consideration, can attend the 4-hour Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) that will be held on 15 January. One hundred candidates who are selected for this exam would be class 12 students and the remaining 500 would be from other classes. Besides, special guidelines are there to ensure participation from girl students.

Those who score 20% marks IOQM would be given certificates. However, all of them wouldn’t be able to attend the INMO.
