Learn Ayurveda from gurus; enrol at Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth

Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth — the National Academy of Ayurveda — has invited applications for its one-year certificate course which is offered in the ‘guru-shishya parampara’ system, ie, teachers imparting education to disciples in the ancient tradition well-documented in Indian religion and culture. The courses will be conducted at various locations in India.

Those interested can submit the applications on Google Forms as well as postal mail along with supporting documents till January 25. Applications which are not submitted in both modes will be rejected.

The application fee of Rs 2,000 could be paid online. The fee for Scheduled Caste/Tribe applicants is Rs 1,000. Selected candidates will receive a stipend. Sponsored candidates will not be given stipend.

The National Academy of Ayurveda is a self-governing institution under the Union AYUSH Ministry.

Eligibility, relaxation
The eligibility to apply is a degree in Ayurveda such as Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) and completion of internship by January 25.

The age limit is 30 years. However, the maximum age for Other Backward Classes/SCs/STS /government-sponsored candidates is 33/35/35 respectively. Those who possess post-graduation in Ayurveda will be eligible for a relaxation of two years. A further relaxation of five years will be given to differently-abled applicants.

Certificate course
Under the certificate course, training is given in the following branches of Ayurveda: Kayachikistsa, Gynaecology and Prasoothi Tantra, Ksharasoothram, Marmachikitsa, Bhagna-Asthi Chikitsa, Salakayam (eyes) and Salakyam (dental) depending on the willingness of the guru.

Training in Bhaishajyakalpana and production of medicines would be offered by the gurus who possess facilities to manufacture the medicines.

Things to note
The certificate course is not offered by Central Council of Indian Medicine. Instead, training is provided by gurus having an experience of over 20 years. Applicants can suggest the name of the guru of their choice subject to some conditions.

Entrance test
An entrance test will be conducted at 12 pm on February 5 at six centres in the country to select candidates for the course. The test centres include Thrissur, Bengaluru and New Delhi.

There will be 100 multiple choice questions in the entrance test which candidates should answer within 100 minutes. No negative marks would be applied for wrong answers.

Caste-based reservation will apply during selection. On completion of the course, successful candidates would be awarded the Certificate of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth. More details are available on the website.
