Over 2,000 serving and retired teachers in the fray for school textbook revision

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has received applications from a total of 2,013 teachers, including the retired, to prepare content for new textbooks to be prepared after the proposed school curriculum revision exercise in Kerala.

The government agency, under the Department of General Education, has scheduled aptitude tests for aspirants on February 11 in all districts of the state. If necessary, an interview too will be held, SCERT Director Dr R K Jayaprakash said.

The new curriculum framework is expected to be finalized by the end of this month. The conceptualization of ideas with regard to the textbook content is also being done simultaneously. The Curriculum Committee members and various subject experts are taking part in the exercise.

The syllabus will be finalized by March. The content preparation for the textbooks of classes 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 will start in April. The new textbooks will be first introduced in these classes during the 2024-25 academic year.

As per the plan the target to complete the textbook content preparation and hand over the same for printing is October. The content for textbooks of Classes 2, 4, 6 and 10, which will be launched in 2025, will be prepared only after that.

There are 291 textbooks across various subjects for the five classes coming under the first stage. The SCERT assessment is that it requires the services of at least 10 teachers for preparing one textbook.
