Make a career in automobile industry by opting for this course

Does any subject related to the automobile industry fascinate you? Then, this course would lead you to a job in this field. A few campuses in Kerala offer the three-year Bachelor of Vocation course in Automobile and Auto Electrical and Electronics for the gearheads.

Not a conventional degree course

The standard operating procedures for designing, manufacturing, repairing, and selling automobiles are taught to students who choose to enrol in this undergraduate course. “Unlike the conventional degree courses, this programme primarily focuses on skill development and industry-oriented practical assignments,” said Babeesh P P, Head of the Department of Automobile, Farook College (Autonomous), Kozhikode. He said that the course includes six semesters, including an internship according to the students' abilities or preference at a reputed organisation.

The curriculum deals with 60 per cent of skill development subjects and the rest includes practical assignments and lab-oriented portions. It includes subjects such as Electronic Engine Management System, Electric and Hybrid Vehicles, Internet of Things, Vehicle Body Engineering and Entrepreneurship Development.

Students are also given a 'Multiple Exit' option in this programme. Those who drop out after one year will be given a diploma certificate and students who completed two years of the course will receive an advanced diploma certificate.

Job opportunities

This course offers numerous opportunities in various sectors of the automobile industry, be it in the sales or service departments. “Graduates are mostly hired as Automotive Electricians, Automotive Service Advisors, Manager Maintenance Mechanical & Electrical, Automotive Automation Specialists and Sales Consultants (Pre-owned Vehicles) in renowned organisations across the country,” said Babeesh.

He added that pursing higher studies in Automobile and Auto Electrical and Electronics will also open a window of opportunities abroad, especially in countries such as Germany and Sweden that dominate the global automobile industry. “The most important aspect of building a career in this sector is to keep oneself updated on the developments in this field and acquire or develop skills accordingly. Opting for a short-term course related to the candidates' preference from a foreign university will be the cherry on the cake,” he said.

Eligibility

Candidates who have passed Class 12 in any stream along with Mathematics can apply.

No minimum marks required.
