Thiruvambady (Kozhikode)/Aluva: Three visually impaired students have created history by scoring A-plus grades for all subjects in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination after taking the exams on their own using laptop.

Even though they could have sought the help of a scribe, the trio decided to write the exams on their own.

Jewel Manoj of Thiruvambady Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School (HSS) and Ibin C Thomas and R Manoj of Aluva Kuttamassery Government HSS are proud that their efforts have paid off.

The questions were read to them and they typed the answers on the regular keyboard of a laptop.

Interestingly, they didn’t write the exam in Braille; instead, they used the respective scripts for writing English, Hindi and Malayalam.

In the past, Jewel had written all the exams with the help of a scribe. However, he was determined to write the SSLC exam on his own and began practising on a laptop. It was only on the day before the exams began that he got the approval from the government. He is the son of Thiruvambady Parekudiyil Manoj and Ambili.

Keezhmad Chathamkuzhiyil CM Thomas and Bini Iype are Ibin’s parents.

Manoj’s parents Ramesh and Sudha, hail from Palakkad. But the family currently resides at Keezhmad.
