Passed Plus-Two? This BPEd course will help you become a sports teacher

The Bachelor of Physical Education (Innovative) course enables students to pursue a career as sports teachers in high schools, trainers at fitness centres and organisers of sports events.

The Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE) at Kariavattom in Thiruvananthapuram, a premier institution in this field, has invited applications for admissions to this four-year course. The course is supervised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the degree is awarded by Kerala University.

Applications could be submitted online till June 15. The application fee is Rs 1,000.

Eligibility

The four-year ‘B PEd Innovative’ course is different from the old three-year BPEd and two-year PG BPEd courses.

Students who have cleared Plus-Two (Class 12) with at least 45 per cent marks or equivalent qualifications can apply. Reduced cut-off is available for Scheduled Caste/Tribe candidates under Kerala University rules.

Students awaiting Class 12 results also can apply and produce their mark-lists during the selection test.

The applicants should not have attained the age of 23 years as on June 1, 2023. The age limit is 25 years for SC/ST category applicants.

Good physical fitness is mandatory. Theory and practical classes, teaching practice, coaching in training and internship are part of the curriculum.

Hostel stay is compulsory.

There are 70 seats: 42 for male and 28 for female students. Reservation norms are applicable.

Selection

Students will be selected for the course based on a written test (50 marks), fitness test (30) and aptitude test (10), which will take place during July 6-8. An additional 10 marks are awarded for achievements in sports. Total marks: 100. Candidates should score a minimum of 45 percent.

Fees

The first year’s fee, including mess charges, is Rs 53,835, of which Rs 33,835 has to be paid during admission.

MPES

Applications have been invited also for the two-year Master of Physical Education and Sports (MPES) course. Total seats are 25 and eligibility to apply is at least 50 per cent marks in BPES, BPE, BPEd or BSc (PE).

Upper-age limit as of July 1, 2023 is 28 years. SC/ST applicants have relaxations.

The first year’s fee is Rs 49,905, including expenses on food. Details on fitness test and application procedure are explained in the website.

PhD
